Morse code differs from the other types of data transmission in several respects. Often, however, you'll only hear one station (probably the one closest to you), and there will be a period of silence while the other station responds. When listening on the amateur bands you may be able to hear both sides of the exchange. Then you will be using 2Tone for transmit. Use 2Tone for the main DI window and MMTTY as an auxiliary RX window. It is also more efficiently programmed than MMTTY which is why it uses so little processor resource. Thus saturation of an individual processor may show a slightly higher figure than 12.5%.ĢTone uses a multi-threaded approach that can use multiple processors at the same time. This is somewhat simplified as Windows applications will also make use of Windows drivers, communication, etc which will probably run on a different processor. In my case it will saturate CPU capacity when it is running at 1/8 th of total CPU capacity or 12.5%.

Software can be written so it runs all on one thread. You will have a CPU that does something similar. In hardware it is 4 CPUs with 8 instruction/data caches, which from the software point of view means it is running 8 processors. My AMD FX8350 has effectively 8 processors. The modern processor is not a processor but a set of processors in one IC. However, there is some further information you need to know about processors and software.

I am running an 8 year old PC Windows 10 with a FX8350 CPU (not overclocked), 24GB and SSD. I have never measured FLdigi as only ever use it occasionally on PSK for a local UK contest. In my testing 2Tone uses less CPU than MMTTY and both on my PC are <1%. You also might like to use Resource Monitor (windows key and type Resource Monitor). You can also identify internal Windows processes like search indexing. Using this you can get at a lot more data and shows CPU and Memory used by every process running on your PC.
